ABOUT Y2MAC

Y2MAC is a residential Montessori middle and high school currently situated in Zudong, Hsinchu. Using the Montessori philosophy we aim to create an environment where adolescents can grow and mature into their best selves and become adults whose impact will have far-reaching and beneficial effects in society, local and beyond.

Job Specifications

  • Shift & Schedule Availability: Full-time

  • Expected Pay Range: Terms will be negotiated, subject to possession of AMI certification, relevant experience, and other qualifications.

  • VISA: We offer assistance with obtaining work visas for international candidates.


Duties

A. Guiding

The Adolescent guide is responsible for working in and with a community of adolescents aged 15 – 18. The guide is one of a team of adults who collaborate to create a stimulating and engaging experience for adolescents using the Montessori philosophy. The guide works with the team and the principal's guidance to create the programme offered to the students, helping each student become the best possible version of themselves.

  • Exhibit reverence, belief and trust in each adolescent.

  • Work in collaboration with all guides and each adolescent to help them reach their potential.

  • Ensure respect and safety for every adolescent in the community.

  • Ensure those with learning differences are respectfully included in your programme, in all interactions and in all options for exploration – physical, intellectual, spiritual, etc.

  • Using your specialty subjects as the basis, develop integrated units of study and work specific to the adolescents you are working with.

  • Use the three-level lesson format to plan programmes.

  • Ensure quality lessons are given in accordance with Montessori philosophy

  • Model professional integrity.

  • Model positive conflict resolution with adults and students whenever possible.

  • Incorporate non-violent conflict resolution in one's own interactions and with student interactions.

  • Prepare tools and equipment needed according to the agreed budget.

  • Be adaptable in planning and be prepared to change if necessary to enhance

  • engagement.

  • Attend staff meetings to share observations of students, and discuss next steps.

  • Join in the work of preparing and maintaining the environment, bringing students into this as appropriate.

  • Contribute to a fair share of duties necessary for the school's operation.

  • Use the school’s planning and record-keeping system to track group and

  • individual progress and participation.


B. Interaction and communication with students

  • Listen to student feedback and use this to enhance the programme Observe students and be prepared to share these interactions

  • Respectfully share observations with students regarding successes, difficulties,

  • choices, interactions with others, and commitment to the community.


C. Additional Expectations

  • Show civility, honesty and integrity in all interactions with staff, students and parents.

  • Develop appropriate relationships in support of teaching and learning.

  • Use excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Possess a positive attitude and high expectations of themselves and their students.

  • Have and use excellent organisational skills

  • Be willing to work hard and help out as needed

  • Able to meet deadlines

  • Able to support students to remain on task and follow through with projects to their completion, and ability to do so themselves.

  • Participate in professional development on Montessori methods of approaching students, planning, and delivering curriculum.

  • Incorporate Montessori philosophy into all aspects of the community

  • Other tasks as are necessary to the effective running an adolescent community.


Qualities and Qualifications

  • AMI Montessori Training 12-18

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an appropriate area

  • Experience teaching, preferably with adolescents

  • A wide variety of interests to share within the community

  • Proficiency in working with cloud-based platforms, i.e., Google and MS Office.

  • Fluent in English (our language of instruction is English)

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as unsupervised

  • Ability to consider the beliefs and perspectives of others
