Y2MAC is a residential Montessori middle and high school currently situated in Zudong, Hsinchu. Using the Montessori philosophy we aim to create an environment where adolescents can grow and mature into their best selves and become adults whose impact will have far-reaching and beneficial effects in society, local and beyond.

UNIVERSITY COUNSELOR
Job Specifications
Shift & Schedule Availability: Working with the adolescents part-time during the year 2025-2026, with the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position in September 2026, or continuing in a part-time role depending on the circumstances.
Expected Pay Range: Salary will be discussed with candidates based on how we collaborate, frequency, and duration.
Main Responsibilities
Provide students with information, guidance, and advocacy as they navigate their post-secondary plans worldwide.
Assist students in their capacity for reflection, decision-making, and self-advocacy.
Build and maintain relationships with admission professionals.
Arrange College/University visits and trips to local University fairs.
Compile records of office activities and maintain a database system; update and maintain databases such as mailing lists and contact lists.
Coordinate college/university event planning and implementation.
Coordinate information both internally and externally with broad constituents.
Educate families about college/university admissions and financial aid or scholarship possibilities.
Educate students on appropriate interviewing techniques, self-assessment tools, and application essay writing techniques.
Generate a schoolwide college/university preparation/awareness plan.
Guide students and their parents/guardians through the college/university admissions and application process.
Handle incoming inquiries and requests and prepare written responses to routine inquiries.
Invite college/university admissions officers to visit the school and meet with students, personally or via Zoom if international.
Maintain a solid working knowledge of colleges and universities, regularly visiting them where possible or utilizing technology where it's not. Stay current on trends and changes in higher education.
Meet individually with students and parents to explore and identify appropriate college/university options. Communicate regularly with counselees.
Monitor individual student progress throughout their college/university/university application process.
Participate in events throughout the year, such as evening college/university fairs, workshops and, where available, campus and university visits.
Prepare supplementary materials to be sent to colleges/universities. Oversee that school credentials get sent to colleges/universities.
Pursue appropriate professional development.
Serve as a general resource for students, parents, and teaching faculty regarding admission criteria and college/university data.
Understand the college/university admission process at a variety of institution types and selectivity levels.
Work effectively one-on-one with students and be able to address small or large gatherings of people to discuss the college/university admission and research process.
Work with faculty to integrate college/university-related skills (i.e., essay writing, interviewing, etc.) into regular curricula.
Write school recommendations for members of the senior class (detailed letters of support).
Collaborates with guides to deliver information, gather recommendations and meet deadlines.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or above from an accredited college/university.
AMI 12-18 diploma is preferred.

Dedication and expertise in counselling a range of students in the career planning and college/university process, application and attendance, directing this at both those for whom higher education is a familiar and long-term goal and for whom it is new and unfamiliar.
Background in admissions or College/University counseling preferred.
Understanding of Montessori adolescent education preferred
