RESIDENTIAL LIFE MANAGER (MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL HOUSE PARENT)

Overview of the Position

Y2MAC is seeking an adventurous individual to join our team. Reporting to the principal, the Residence Manager is a live-in position with overall responsibility for the student’s growth, development and welfare outside of school hours (term time only). Specifically, this person is the adult presence and role model, providing care and guidance to our adolescents in their home away from home. They will oversee homework, organize the cooking of breakfast and dinner with the students, attend resident’s meetings that oversee the governance of the boarding community, and help arrange and supervise evening and/or weekend activities according to interest and needs. They are also the first point of contact for students during this time and support health, safety and welfare of students, along with leading the building of cohesion, ensuring that the students take ownership of building a healthy, accepting and supportive community.

If desired, the RLM may be able to work with students during the school day particularly in the areas of expertise and/or interests. Montessori training in the USA or Australia may be provided.

Accomadation

The Residential Life Manager will be provided with a studio unit in our residential facility and will be required to live in the residence during all term times.

Hours of Operation

The students are away from the residence from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Bedtime is 10:00 pm Sunday to Thursday nights and 11 pm on Friday and Saturdays. While the Residential Life Manager needs to be in the residence to respond to emergencies, typically, this time is their own. As student numbers grow and they spend more time at school, a team of adults will work together for this end.

The Residential Life Manager is part of the team of adults working with the students and will join staff meetings at appropriate times as well as keep records of observations in our online tool. He/she will follow the guidelines outlined in the handbook and policies under the general direction of the Principal, who he/she reports to.
